What this site is
Book Your Planet is a free entertainment site. It generates a procedurally-created, fictional planet from a name you type. It is not a real astronomical naming service and has no affiliation with the International Astronomical Union or any scientific body. Nothing claimed here grants real-world naming rights to anything.
What we collect, and why
- The name you type. Used to generate your planet and stored permanently as part of the public catalog (see "How long we keep it," below).
- Your approximate country. Detected automatically from your IP address using a third-party lookup service, ipapi.co, so that the same name from different countries can produce different planets. We don't see or store your IP address ourselves — it's sent directly from your browser to ipapi.co, which has its own privacy policy. If this lookup fails or is blocked, claiming still works; your planet is just generated without a country component.
- An ownership code. Generated randomly in your browser when you claim a planet. We store a one-way cryptographic hash of it, not the code itself — we cannot look up or recover your code from our database, which is also why we can't recover a lost code for you. There is no account or password-reset system.
- A manifesto message, only if you choose to write one — up to 480 characters, shown publicly, permanently, and exactly as written.
- Planet DNA quiz answers, only if you choose to take the optional quiz — used to show a "governance profile" on your planet and in aggregate statistics on the star map.
We do not collect your real name (unless that's what you typed) or precise location. Payment for the optional Planet Kit is handled entirely by Stripe (see below) — card details never touch this site or our database. We don't run advertising, ad trackers, or analytics cookies. We don't sell or rent data to anyone.
The email exceptions, clearly stated: two optional, paid-or-preorder features ask for an email address, and only because they are delivered by email.
- Cosmic Drop pack reservations (Wallpapers page): we store the email address you provide together with your planet's catalog ID — solely so we can deliver that order and tell you when checkout opens.
- Planet Kit orders (The Planet Kit page): we store your email address, the planet's name and generated seed, and — for gift orders — the occasion you selected and the personal message you wrote for the reveal page. This is stored solely to craft and deliver that one kit. Your personal message is never published anywhere; it appears only on the private reveal link made for your recipient. Payment happens on a secure Stripe checkout link we email you — Stripe processes your card under its own privacy policy, and we never see or store card numbers.
Both of these live in write-only collections that no visitor, script, or search engine can read; only the site operator can access them, and they are never shared, never used for marketing, and deleted on request via the email above.
How long we keep it
By design, claimed planets, manifestos, and Planet DNA answers are permanent and cannot be edited through the site once submitted — that permanence is part of the product (a "founding declaration," a catalog entry). This is different from saying it can never be removed: if you want your entry deleted or corrected (for example, you typed someone else's name by mistake, or want your manifesto taken down), email hello@akai.solutions with the catalog ID or ownership code and we will action the request manually. Residents of the EU/UK and other jurisdictions with a legal right to erasure or correction of personal data can invoke that right the same way.
Other services this site uses
- Google Fonts (Cormorant Garamond, Inter, JetBrains Mono) are loaded from Google's servers, which receive your browser's request for the font files (including your IP address) per Google's own privacy policy.
- Firebase / Google Cloud hosts the catalog database. Claim, manifesto, and quiz data described above is stored there, subject to Google's privacy policy as our data processor.
Cookies & local storage
We don't use tracking or advertising cookies. The site uses your browser's local storage only to remember (a) that you've claimed a planet recently, to apply a one-per-minute rate limit, and (b) whether you've taken the optional Planet DNA quiz on this device. Nothing here is used to track you across other sites.
Children
Book Your Planet doesn't knowingly collect data from children. The catalog is general-audience entertainment content; if a parent or guardian believes a child has entered their name and wants it removed, email us and we'll remove it.
Terms of use
- The core service — claiming, the star map, the on-screen certificate — is provided free, "as is," with no guarantee of uptime, accuracy, or availability.
- The Planet Kit ($14.99) is an optional digital product delivered by email, normally within 24 hours of payment. Reserving is free and creates no obligation; you only pay via the Stripe checkout link we send. If a delivered kit is defective (wrong world, broken files), email us and we'll correct it or refund the payment. Because gift-mode kits create a permanent public catalog entry at fulfillment, refunds after a gifted world has been published are handled case by case via the removal process described above.
- Manifesto messages and any other public submissions must not be illegal, harassing, hateful, or infringe someone else's rights. We reserve the right to remove content that violates this, at our discretion.
- Procedurally generated planet content (names, descriptions, certificates) is provided for personal, non-commercial use such as gifts and personal keepsakes.
- We may update these terms or this policy as the site evolves; the version here is always the current one.
